"Flock of Sparrows, Philadelphia, PA" (2021)

Four brightly colored fabric blocks framed in white frames (without glass) that beautifully offset the delightful birds. Set of 4.
.
My daughter called me one day during lunch as she sat in a park. Through the phone I could hear the sparrows chirping and the distant sounds of the city. It was a delightful moment. Spontaneously I made these blocks to capture the memory of the moment.

Cat by a Koi Pond (2020)

Originally inspired by a visit to the Japanese Friendship Garden in Phoenix, Arizona, this contemporary art quilt is a whimsical vision of peace and serenity. The cat gazes quietly, almost imperceptibly, down at the undulating koi fish as the water laps delicately at the pond’s edge, sunlight glinting off its surface.

Rough-edge appliqued and thread-painted on a rich blue silk fabric and embellished with glass facets.

anemones (2019)

A whimsical exploration of anemones: both the sea anemone and the flower.

Thread-painted on a rich blue silk fabric and embellished with glass facets. It is easy to get lost among the images, with their dream-like qualities, reminiscent of Miyazaki's spirit worlds.

Ferns unrolling their young fronds (2019)

This art quilt takes a whimsical look at the nature and nurture aspects growth. It depicts an upward thrust of emergent life as well as the cross movement of air, caused by sunshine and warm breezes. The stylized ferns are sprouting, unfurling, with their spores floating through the air.

Yet, on a deeper level, this art quilt delves into the nature and nurture aspects of our formative years. I explore the rich family, social, and cultural conditions we are born into. I investigate the environments our parents come from, and the type of nurturing and growth we received because of their experiences. I see how we grow from them, from our world environments, and from our own experiences. And that through us, our children are valuable contributors to our diverse and wonderful world and life itself.
